We ranked 16 CDN & DNS providers by real-world reliability over the last 90 days, using 102 status page incidents and our own around-the-clock uptime checks. A CDN or DNS provider sits in front of everything else a business runs online, so when it fails the website, online store, booking pages and APIs all become unreachable at once, even though the servers behind them are fine. A DNS outage can also stop email from arriving. Because one provider's edge network serves millions of sites, a single bad configuration push or data-center fault can take a small business offline for minutes or hours with nothing it can do locally.

CDN & DNS Providers reliability at a glance
Across the 10 ranked CDN & DNS providers, average 90-day uptime is 98.72%. Reliability scores range from 90.4 (DNSimple) to 29.7 (Akamai).
Together they published 102 incidents in the last 90 days, 19 of them partial or major outages.
The typical vendor takes 5h 7m to resolve an incident. Fastly is fastest, at 1h 45m on average.
Imperva reported the most incidents (31 in 90 days).
What to check before you choose a CDN provider
Check how often the provider has network-wide incidents rather than single-city ones. A global edge or DNS outage takes every site offline; a problem in one city is usually rerouted.
Look at the control plane separately: dashboard, API, cache purge and configuration deployment problems don't break a live site, but they stop you from fixing one.
For DNS, ask whether you can add a secondary DNS provider. Two independent nameserver networks turn a provider outage into a non-event.
Note how long the provider takes to post an incident and how clearly it names affected regions, so you can tell if your visitors were hit.
90-day uptime history
Each bar is one day. Hover a bar for that day's uptime and incidents.
These vendors join the ranking once we have enough evidence: at least 14 days of data, and for vendors with a quiet status page (silent for a year, or for 90 days while their competitors report several incidents), 30 days of our own independent monitoring.

Based on the last 90 days of data, DNSimple is the most reliable CDN provider we track, with a reliability score of 90.4/100 and 99.94% uptime.
How do you measure CDN provider reliability?
We poll each vendor's public status page every few minutes, record every incident, and run our own uptime checks against each vendor's login and customer-facing pages. Uptime (40%), incident frequency (20%), average time to resolve (20%) and transparency (20%) combine into one score out of 100.
How often are these rankings updated?
Continuously. Status pages and uptime checks run every five minutes and scores are recalculated several times an hour.
Can vendors pay to rank higher?
No. Sponsored placements are clearly labelled, shown separately from the rankings and never change a vendor's score.
