Most Reliable Managed Database Services (2026)
We ranked 15 managed database services by real-world reliability over the last 90 days, using 112 status page incidents and our own around-the-clock uptime checks. A managed database holds the customers, orders and accounts behind your website or app, so when it goes down every page and request that touches data fails at once. Even short outages can mean failed checkouts, lost form submissions and support tickets, and a slow or failed restore after an incident can mean lost data. Most small teams run their app on a single hosted database region, which makes the provider's service history a direct measure of their own uptime.

- Together they published 112 incidents in the last 90 days, 40 of them partial or major outages.
- The typical vendor takes 4h 56m to resolve an incident. Upstash is fastest, at <1m on average.
- Supabase reported the most incidents (51 in 90 days).
What to check before you choose a managed database service
- Check which region your database runs in and read incident history for that region, since most outages are regional rather than global.
- Separate data-plane incidents (connections, queries, timeouts) from control-plane ones (dashboard, project creation, upgrades). The first takes your app down; the second only blocks changes.
- Ask how backups, point-in-time restore and failover replicas work on your plan, and how long a restore takes. Free and entry tiers often run on a single node with no automatic failover.
- Subscribe to the provider's status page and watch for incidents caused by their cloud host (AWS, GCP, Azure), which can hit several providers at once.

These vendors join the ranking once we have enough evidence: at least 14 days of data, and for vendors with a quiet status page (silent for a year, or for 90 days while their competitors report several incidents), 30 days of our own independent monitoring.

Frequently asked questions
What is the most reliable managed database service?
Based on the last 90 days of data, Upstash is the most reliable managed database service we track, with a reliability score of 98.0/100 and 100% uptime.
How do you measure managed database service reliability?
We poll each vendor's public status page every few minutes, record every incident, and run our own uptime checks against each vendor's login and customer-facing pages. Uptime (40%), incident frequency (20%), average time to resolve (20%) and transparency (20%) combine into one score out of 100.
How often are these rankings updated?
Continuously. Status pages and uptime checks run every five minutes and scores are recalculated several times an hour.
Can vendors pay to rank higher?
No. Sponsored placements are clearly labelled, shown separately from the rankings and never change a vendor's score.
